Paceman Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Fitness Problems.

'Significant concern' for the English camp after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the ground during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer pulled up with his hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over on Saturday.

The England team stated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and would spend time off the field for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The concluding match of the series at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 as a batsman among just a trio of English batsmen to reach double figures.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he came back on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he bowled a variation to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

The English bowler was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the previous Test.
