The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Whenever a significant prize-giving event approaches, one notices a demand for introducing of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely that year
  • A different innovative game missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent small games, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games in the world and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
